Dads’ Club – Meeting Minutes

January 19th, 2009, 8:30 p.m.
Lakeside Fish & Grill

Attendees (19): Gabe Savely, Owen Canfield, Chad Goodman, Nicholas Powell*, Rick Fair, Brac Barrett, Shawn McLaughlin, Trey Welker, Cordell Jordan, Gary Savely, Gef Bice, Guy Hartman, Shane Holley, Chas Rooks, Chuck Duginski, Andrew Schmit, Jude Offiah, Brian Schmit, Denis Rischard (* New Member First Meeting)

I. Call to Order, Prayer & Introductions

II. Reports / Old Business

a. Spiritual Development
i. Friday Morning Mass – No Report
ii. Capital Campaign – No Report
iii. Dad-Child Retreat – Geoff Camp was unable to attend the meeting, however, he asked that those in attendance vote on what date would be best for the retreat at OLOG. The 2 dates available are the weekends of May 8-9 or August 14-15. Those in attendance voted to schedule this for the weekend in May. It was also discussed that the kids in attendance should be between PK and 5th grade.
iv. In Fathers Footsteps Retreat – This retreat will be held at BMCHS on Saturday, February 28th, 2009. Sign-up forms were handed out to all those in attendance. Registration will be accepted up until the day of the event.
v. Sacraments with Father Jacobi – No Report

b. PTO
i. Spirit Day Sponsors – Currently unscheduled for a Friday in the Spring. Gabe will contact the PTO and find out which days are available.
ii. Auction Poker Tournament – For those that signed up to play in the poker tournament, the date of that event is Saturday, February 28th, 2009.
iii. Golf Tournament – Andrew Schmidt discussed the Golf Tournament would be happening on Monday, April 20th, 2009. The organization meetings will be starting very soon and anyone willing to volunteer would be greatly appreciated.
iv. Prayers for Sarah Robinson – One of the SE K students has been diagnosed with acute leukemia. Please keep her in your prayers and if you would like to help out with meals or in any way, please contact Cordell Jordan.

c. Fundraising
i. Financial Report – Reported that we were going to donate $250 to the school to help out with Catholic Schools Week and an advertisement SE put in the Friday paper to promote the upcoming Open House on Sunday, January 25th.
ii. SuperBowl Party – Discussed that this was to be held at Lakeside Fish & Grill on Sunday, February 1st. Flyers had been sent home to all the families and we got a head count of 22 adults from those in attendance at the meeting. The cost is $20 per adult, of which a portion will be donated to the Fallen Dads funds.
iii. Thunder Basketball Night – No Report. Still looking for someone to volunteer the organization of this event.
iv. Blazer Hockey Night – Phil Novak was unable to attend the meeting, however, he asked that we discuss which night would be best to hold this event. After some discussion, it was decided to have this event held on Saturday, March 7th, 2009. The game starts at 7:00pm that evening. Phil will be discussing ticket prices and other items at the next meeting.
v. Fish Fry during Lent – Phil Novak was unable to attend the meeting, however, he was able to pass on that we are somewhat in limbo on this. The individual at CK who he was working with has not been able to solidify the equipment. Phil would have another update at the February Meeting.
vi. Other Ideas – Steak/Cigar Night, Poker Tourney, Golf Tourney, CGSAA Trace Meet – No Report.

d. Projects
i. Community Garden – No Report. Still need someone to volunteer to head up the organization of this project.
ii. Baseball Field – No Report.
iii. Bereavement Scholarships – Information has been gathered to align this with the Catholic Foundation Plan. If interested in donating to this cause or helping raise funds, please contact Andrew Schmidt.

III. New Business

a. Catholic Schools Week
i. $250.00 Donation for Friday paper advertisement promoting upcoming CSSE Open House

b. Helping Jack Holland Around the School
i. Gabe will be attending the next CSSE Grounds/Maintenance meeting. He will work with this committee to setup and organize some work done around the school possibly during Spring Break Weekend. Gabe should have more information at the next meeting.

c. Open Discussion
i. Knights of Columbus – Mardi Gras Party – Brac discussed that the annual event was being held on Saturday, February 21st, 2009. He asked that if you have no plans, please try to attend.
ii. Cordell Jordan for School Board – Cordell Jordan discussed that he is running for OKC District 1 School Board. He asked for our support in his campaign and that we make sure and get out there to vote on February 10th, 2009. If you are interested in helping Cordell campaign, please give him a call.

IV. Closing / Adjourn to Socialize
